Choices are important in healthcare—especially when you’re having a baby. At MetroHealth, we offer pregnancy care from four different types of providers, so you can have the pregnancy experience you’re looking for.

Just as babies have their own unique genes, no two pregnancies are alike.

Not every person needs the same thing from pregnancy care. Your health, your baby’s health and your pregnancy goals all play a role in determining what kind of care will result in the healthiest outcome. At MetroHealth, there are many options when it comes to prenatal care, so you can have the pregnancy and delivery you’ve always dreamed about.

No matter your needs—or what type of provider you choose—know that a healthy child starts with great prenatal care. The decisions you make throughout pregnancy—with food, lifestyle and keeping up with your healthcare—can give your baby the best chance for a healthy start. It all begins with selecting the right provider and visiting with them throughout your pregnancy for prenatal care.

Certified Nurse-Midwives: MetroHealth’s Newest Option For Women’s Healthcare

Certified nurse-midwives are a new option for women’s healthcare at MetroHealth, from pregnancy care to a lifetime of well-woman care. At MetroHealth, our certified nurse-midwives are experienced medical providers with a master’s or doctoral degree, who have extensive clinical expertise on top of years of experience as registered nurses. Equally important, they excel at making patients feel comfortable, answering questions and forming relationships that encourage good health.

Certified nurse-midwives are an ideal option for women who are at low risk for complications in pregnancy—that’s about 90% of women. From prenatal care to delivery and post-partum care, certified nurse-midwives help parents-to-be understand their birthing options and make sure you feel heard during your pregnancy journey. And, you can continue to see a certified nurse-midwife after your baby is born for a lifetime of women’s healthcare.

Family Medicine Doctors: Care for the Whole Family

Many women have built a relationship with a family medicine provider they trust and choose to stay with their provider through pregnancy. That’s why at MetroHealth, our Family Medicine doctors provide prenatal care for women, deliver their babies and provide post-partum care. This continuity of care often extends to the new baby, too. If you are at low risk for complications during pregnancy, choosing a family medicine provider means that both mother and baby develops a relationship with a trusted provider—for life.

Obstetricians: Expert Physicians Dedicated to Pregnancy Care

Many women choose to see an obstetrician for prenatal care and delivery, as well as post-partum care. Obstetricians specialize in care for pregnant women—it’s what they do every day. With advanced clinical training through medical school and residency, obstetricians are experts in women’s health during pregnancy and care for pregnant women with a range of complications—or none at all. And, because obstetricians are also gynecologists, they can provide expert women’s healthcare throughout your lifetime.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine: The Region’s Best Support for High-Risk Pregnancies

For more than three decades, MetroHealth has been leading the way in treating high-risk pregnancies through our Maternal-Fetal Medicine program. MetroHealth is one of only 12 centers in the country selected to participate in the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units research networks. Because of that selection, we are at the forefront of maternal-fetal care in Cuyahoga County.

A Team Providing Healthy Outcomes

At MetroHealth, we have every option you may need to have the healthiest possible pregnancy. Whether you see a certified nurse-midwife, a family medicine provider, an obstetrician or a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine, we’re responsive to the care you need during each moment of your pregnancy.
