MetroHealth understands the challenges faced by the LBGTQ+ community, and we’ve taken proactive steps to create safe spaces through our Pride Network. Our Pride Network is a primary care service that prioritizes the health care needs of LGBTQ+ individuals and fosters a healthier, more inclusive community.
Creating Safe Spaces:
MetroHealth’s Pride Network is more than just a source of healthcare, it’s a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals to seek care without fear of discrimination or judgment. Pride is staffed by clinicians who have received specialized training in LGBTQ+ health care.
Comprehensive and Inclusive Care:
Your primary care clinician helps you maintain your best health at every stage of your life. The primary care services offered throughout our Pride Network are tailored to address the specific needs of LGBTQ+ patients.
- Our approach considers the full spectrum of physical, mental and emotional well-being.
- Our primary care physicians have a deep understanding of LGBTQ+ health issues, including sexual health, hormone therapy, mental health and preventive care.
- We offer routine screenings, vaccinations and chronic disease management, ensuring LGBTQ+ patients receive the same level of care as everyone else.
Hormone Therapy and Gender-Affirming Care in Adults:
For transgender and gender non-conforming adult patients, accessing appropriate health care can be challenging. Our physicians understand your needs and provide expert care in hormone therapy and gender-affirming treatments.
Our primary care physicians at the Pride clinics work closely with mental health professionals to provide comprehensive gender-affirming care, including hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and surgical referrals. This approach helps ensure our patients receive the support they need throughout their gender journey.
Collaborative Care and Referrals:
When necessary, our primary care physicians refer patients to specialists within the network who are experienced in LGBTQ+ health care, such as gynecologists, urologists and mental health professionals – so you have access to all the specialized care you need.
We also help people struggling with substance use and addiction. Our Pride clinics, for example, can prescribe and manage medications for opioid and alcohol use disorders.
“Our Pride Network offers primary care tailored to the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ community. By creating safe spaces and providing comprehensive care, we’re incredibly committed to improving the health and well-being of everyone,” said Allison Myers (she/her), MD, MPH, MetroHealth PRIDE physician. “As we continue to advocate for equality and inclusivity in health care, initiatives like our Pride clinics are paving the way for a future where every individual can access compassionate care.”
