MyChart is more than “just” a place to make appointments or see test results. Think of it as a one-stop source to help you manage you and your family’s health and wellness. Here’s how to start using MyChart today.
There is so much you can do with MyChart, says Katherine Liang, MD, Director of Clinical Informatics for Population Health. A secure online patient portal that gives you access to your medical records, you can use it on your computer or via an app on your phone or tablet. Its most obvious advantage: is being able to see when your doctor is available and schedule appointments. It also lets you see upcoming and past appointments, and view after-visit summaries and notes from your doctor.

Finding same-day care
Need care quickly? Use MyChart to connect with MetroHealth’s urgent care services. With just a few clicks, you can use Virtual Urgent Care to connect with a medical provider right away for a video visit. You can also see options and wait times for Express Care in person. 2
Refilling medications
Using the “medication” tab on MyChart, you can review all your medications. You can also request refills and update your preferred pharmacy. It’s a great way to see all your prescribed medicines in one place.3
Seeing test results
With MyChart, you can access test results as soon as they’re available. That means you don’t have to wait for your doctor to send them. Remember, though, your provider will review your test results with you and explain them. Another great function with test results is to track trends, such as comparing cholesterol numbers year to year. 4
Pinging your provider
The messaging function of MyChart is helpful when you have quick questions for your provider. Messaging should not take the place of seeing your provider in person or virtually, but it’s ideal if you have follow-up questions from a visit or a question about a medicine you’re taking. 5
Managing family care
By setting up proxy access (where you have permission to see the chart of a family member), you can use MyChart to help care for children and aging parents. (Set up proxy access here.)
