If you’re ready to start your weight loss journey, it can be difficult to know where to start. At MetroHealth, our Weight Loss Surgery & Weight Management Center gives each person access to the latest medically proven weight loss solutions for a healthier life.

Every person is different. That’s why you need a plan that delivers treatment that truly fits you.

With so many options claiming to be the answer to weight loss, it’s hard to know which one will work best for you.

At MetroHealth, we know that obesity is a chronic disease that leads to changes in your body’s hormones. That means “eating less and moving more” doesn’t  work for everyone. And, with a new fad diet hitting social media every month or so, it’s easy to think that a certain diet is all you need to lose weight.

Our team of obesity medicine experts, surgeons, nutritionists and mental health professionals walk with you, providing a lifetime of support as you continue your weight loss journey.

Whether you choose us or another provider, there are certain things that you should look for in any weight loss program:

What should you look for in a weight loss provider?

Providers who help you be heard

Listening is an important part of the weight loss journey at MetroHealth. We’ll identify your goals, discuss your options and help you decide on a treatment plan that truly fits you. Many of our providers have had successful weight loss journeys themselves—whether through bariatric surgery, nutritional guidance or medication. We’ve been where you are. And we’ll walk beside you the whole way.

Treatment that truly fits you

Not every person’s weight loss journey is the same. With the most board-certified obesity medicine specialists in the region, MetroHealth offers you access to incredible expertise to help you build a customized treatment plan. Whether surgery, nutritional guidance or medication is right for you—or a combination of treatments—we’re here to help you understand what’s working so you can reach your goals.

National recognition and accreditation

The MetroHealth Weight Loss Center has received a distinguished level of recertification for three years from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) as a Comprehensive Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications. It’s the highest level granted by the American College of Surgeons, and MetroHealth was the first in Ohio to receive this certification. What does that mean for you? It means you can have confidence that we’ll help you achieve results—not to mention access to our constantly expanding services.

Experienced surgeons

Bariatric surgery can reset your body’s hormonal balance, making lifestyle changes like diet and exercise more effective. Nearly 90% of patients who choose bariatric surgery are successful in losing weight and staying healthy long-term. It’s one of the most cost-effective ways to treat obesity. That means you want the best surgeons available when surgery is your choice for treatment. Sergio J. Bardaro, MD, Surgical Director of the Weight Loss Center, was among the first 100 surgeons in the country to earn certification from the American Board of Surgery as a Focused Practice Designation for metabolic and bariatric surgery. Amelia Dorsey, MD, is a pioneer in robotic bariatric surgery, and has performed over 500 robotic bariatric surgeries at MetroHealth, which often result in less pain and shorter recovery times. Aneesah McClinton, MD also specializes in robotic bariatric surgery.

A multidisciplinary team

Since obesity impacts other diseases, it’s important to have other health-related goals beyond the scale. At MetroHealth, your team can include sleep medicine providers, diabetes providers, cardiologists, pulmonologists and nutritionists. And, because you’re setting goals for a new kind of life, you’ll be connected to a behavioral health specialist to help you work through your weight loss journey.

A lifetime of support

Obesity is a chronic disease that will need lifelong management. We’re here as long as you need us. You’ll continue to see an obesity medicine provider throughout your lifetime to help you stay healthy. Our specialists in nutrition, behavioral health, pulmonology, cardiology, diabetes and sleep medicine are also here when you need them.

Taking The First Step

No matter which weight loss treatment fits you at this moment, taking the first step is the hardest—and most important. Talk with your primary care provider to see if you are a candidate for bariatric surgery, or to discuss weight loss medication.
