It’s important to establish care with a MetroHealth provider before your baby is born so we can give them a healthy start to life. A Pre-Birth Pediatric Virtual Visit offers the opportunity to connect directly with a pediatrician before the birth of your baby.

We want to help you feel ready to welcome your baby home.

A Pre-Birth Pediatric Virtual Visit gives expectant parents a convenient way to ask questions about caring for a newborn and become established with a provider for the baby’s first visit after they’re born. After all, a new parent’s relationship with the baby’s pediatrician is one of the most important relationships they can have in those early years.

“A virtual visit with our Children’s Health Care Team before baby is born will make the transition in the first few days of life much smoother. You will feel comforted knowing who to call if you have questions after you take your newborn home. We’ll be by your side to make sure your baby has all their tests, vaccines, and other important care to help them grow up healthy and strong,” said Candis Platt-Houston, MD, Division Director of General Pediatrics and Vice President of Operations, Pediatrics. “A Pre-Birth Pediatric Virtual Visit is convenient and allows parents to ask questions about caring for baby when they come home from the hospital.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends all parents-to-be visit a pediatrician during the third trimester of pregnancy as an important first step in establishing a trusted relationship with a provider for their child.

Most babies have their first pediatric office visit between 2 and 5 days after coming home from the hospital.

During this virtual meet and greet appointment with one of our pediatric providers, we will help you:

  • Learn the basics of newborn care, such as breastfeeding, childhood immunizations, circumcision, newborn screening, car seat resources and safety, and more
  • Understand what care is available to baby after delivery at MetroHealth’s Birthing Center
  • Get answers to your most pressing questions, such as how to get your home ready for baby
  • Find an ongoing Children’s Health Care Team provider after the birth of the baby
