When you choose the MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute for your care, you will be seen five to six times a week by a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, also called a physiatrist. We take care of the most complex rehabilitation patients in the region. Therefore, we have a physician onsite 24 hours a day. As an academic rehabilitation hospital, each rehabilitation unit is staffed by at least three physicians, a board-certified physiatrist, and two resident physicians, who are physiatrists in training.

Specialized Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Units

The spinal cord injury and brain injury units may be staffed by a fourth physician, a rehabilitation fellow who is receiving additional training beyond residency in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine, respectively. This level of specialization and expertise is unique in the region. Our physicians are all rehabilitation specialists, and they will address any medical needs or complications you may have.

The units can also accommodate cardiac, pulmonary, orthopedic, and other neurological disorders. As a three-time Magnet recognized facility, we have demonstrated continued excellence in nursing services and commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the patients and community we serve.

Care for the Whole Person

In addition, each unit has access to a rehabilitation psychologist to provide psychological support at all times if you or your loved one need help adjusting to your injury or illness, rehabilitation or the idea of transitioning home. Each unit features a dedicated staff of rehabilitation nurses with specialty training in stroke, brain injury, or spinal cord injury/multi-system trauma.

At MetroHealth, we pride ourselves on being not just experts in the field, but team players. Our entire team meets daily to discuss every patient’s progress, so we can ensure you or your loved one are making the best progress possible.
